Job Description

Position: Game Developer (Part-time / アルバイト)
Type: Contrat à temps partiel (Full time)
Start date: Flexible (Q4 2025 preferred)

 


🕹️ About the Project

We are creating an indie 2D action-adventure game inspired by Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Celeste.
The game features a melancholic atmosphere, fluid combat, and emotional storytelling, set in a hand-drawn world full of mystery and life.

Our goal is to craft a game that blends tight platforming, immersive exploration, and poetic narrative, capturing the emotion and depth found in modern classics of the genre.

You’ll join a small, passionate team based in Osaka, working in a creative and friendly environment where every idea can shape the world of our game.


🧩 Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine core gameplay systems (movement, combat, collisions, player abilities, etc.).

  • Implement and integrate animations, art, and sound using GameMaker Studio 2 (or Unity 2D if preferred).

  • Collaborate directly with the game director on level design and overall player experience.

  • Optimize game performance for PC and console targets.

  • Participate in testing, iteration, and creative discussions.


🧠 Requirements

  • Based in Osaka (Japan) AND able to work on-site.

  • Fluent in English (communication within the team is in English)

  • 5 Years of game development (GameMaker Studio 2 or Unity 2D).
  • Proven experience with 2D game development.

  • Strong understanding of physics, animation, and player control systems.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English.

  • Passion for Metroidvania-style games and artistic, emotional storytelling.


🌱 Nice to Have

  • Experience with hand-drawn integration or procedural level design.

  • Familiarity with JSON-based data structures, AI, or combat systems.

  • Experience with lighting, shaders, or special effects.

  • Interest in narrative scripting, cutscene logic, or music integration.


💰 Compensation

  • 3 to 6 millions yen

  • Annual Pay increase

  • Annual Bonus (up 150% the monthly salary)

  • Optional Quarter Bonus (based on company and teams goals)

  • Possibility of long-term position
